About This Template
Analyze any company's financial health with this comprehensive Financial Ratio Calculator Excel template. Calculate all 16 essential ratios across profitability, liquidity, leverage, efficiency, and market categories โ instantly, with live formulas you can inspect and customize.
What You Can Calculate
This template computes 16 key financial ratios organized into five categories:
- Profitability: Gross Margin, Operating Margin, Net Profit Margin, ROA, and ROE
- Liquidity: Current Ratio and Quick Ratio
- Leverage: Liabilities-to-Equity, Liabilities-to-Assets, and Interest Coverage
- Efficiency: Asset Turnover, Inventory Turnover, and Days Sales Outstanding
- Market: Earnings Per Share, P/E Ratio, and Dividend Yield
Required Inputs
Enter 15 data points from a company's financial statements:
- Income Statement: Revenue, COGS, Operating Expenses, Interest Expense, Net Income
- Balance Sheet: Total Assets, Total Liabilities, Current Assets, Current Liabilities, Inventory, Accounts Receivable, Stockholders' Equity
- Market Data: Shares Outstanding, Stock Price, Dividends Paid
Methodology
All formulas follow standard financial analysis conventions from Berk, DeMarzo & Harford's Corporate Finance textbook. EBIT is calculated as Revenue minus COGS minus Operating Expenses. Ratios automatically display N/A when inputs would create undefined results (such as zero equity for ROE).
Assumptions & Limitations
- All inputs should be from the same fiscal period
- Uses Total Liabilities (not just debt) for leverage ratios
- P/E Ratio only calculated when EPS is positive
- For educational purposes only โ not financial advice
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Simply save a copy for each company you want to analyze. Enter that company's financial data, and all 16 ratios will calculate automatically. You can then compare ratios side-by-side across your saved files.
All inputs come from a company's annual report or 10-K filing. Income statement items (Revenue, COGS, Operating Expenses, Interest Expense, Net Income) and balance sheet items (Assets, Liabilities, Equity) are in the financial statements. Shares outstanding and dividends are in the notes or investor relations materials.
Ratios display N/A when the calculation would be undefined or meaningless. For example, P/E Ratio requires positive earnings, and ROE requires positive equity. The template includes built-in checks to prevent misleading results.
