About This Template
Analyze your long call option positions with this professional Excel template. Whether you are learning options trading or managing an active portfolio, this Long Call Calculator Excel template helps you understand the key metrics that define your risk and reward before entering a trade.
What You Can Calculate
This template computes the essential metrics for any long call position:
- Entry Cost โ Total premium paid to open the position (per-share premium x 100 shares x contracts)
- Maximum Loss โ Your worst-case scenario, limited to the total premium paid
- Maximum Profit โ Theoretically unlimited as the stock price rises
- Breakeven Price โ The stock price needed to break even at expiration (strike + premium)
- Move to Breakeven โ Percentage the stock must move from current price to reach breakeven
- Intrinsic Value โ Current value if exercised immediately
- P/L if Expired Now โ Profit or loss at the current stock price
Required Inputs
Enter just four values to analyze any long call position:
- Current Stock Price โ The stock price at trade entry
- Strike Price โ The price at which you can buy shares
- Premium (per share) โ The option price you paid or plan to pay
- Number of Contracts โ Each contract controls 100 shares
Methodology
The template uses standard options payoff formulas. Breakeven is calculated as Strike + Premium. Maximum loss equals the total premium paid. Profit at any stock price is: max(Stock - Strike, 0) x 100 x Contracts - Entry Cost.
Assumptions & Limitations
- Premium mode only โ enter your actual option price (no Black-Scholes pricing)
- Calculations assume the option is held to expiration
- Does not account for commissions, fees, or early exercise
- Each contract represents 100 shares of the underlying stock
Frequently Asked Questions
This template focuses on position analysis using your actual premium paid. For theoretical pricing with implied volatility, use the free online Long Call Calculator which includes Black-Scholes and interactive P/L charts.
Change the Current Stock Price input to see how your P/L changes. The P/L if Expired Now output shows your profit or loss if the option expired at that price.
A call is out-of-the-money (OTM) when the current stock price is below the strike price. An OTM option has zero intrinsic value at expiration and expires worthless.
