About This Template
Calculate your Net Stable Funding Ratio (NSFR) with this professional Excel template. The NSFR is a Basel III regulatory requirement that measures whether a bank has sufficient stable funding to support its assets over a one-year time horizon. Use this template to analyze structural liquidity compliance, identify funding gaps, and understand how different funding sources and asset types affect your NSFR.
What You Can Calculate
This template calculates five key NSFR metrics:
- Net Stable Funding Ratio โ The core compliance metric (ASF/RSF ร 100%). Must be โฅ100% to meet Basel III requirements.
- Compliance Status โ Instant pass/fail determination against the regulatory threshold.
- Total Available Stable Funding (ASF) โ Weighted sum of your funding sources based on their stability characteristics.
- Total Required Stable Funding (RSF) โ Weighted sum of your assets based on their liquidity characteristics.
- Funding Surplus/Deficit โ The dollar amount of excess stable funding or shortfall requiring remediation.
Required Inputs
Enter values for 13 balance sheet items across two categories:
- ASF (6 inputs): Regulatory capital, stable retail deposits, less stable retail deposits, and wholesale funding by maturity bucket (>1 year, 6-12 months, <6 months).
- RSF (7 inputs): Cash, Level 1 and 2A securities, interbank loans, residential mortgages, other loans, and illiquid assets.
Methodology
The template applies Basel III standardized weights to each funding source and asset category. ASF weights range from 100% (most stable) for regulatory capital to 0% for short-term wholesale funding. RSF weights range from 0% (most liquid) for cash to 100% for illiquid assets. The ratio formula is:
NSFR = Available Stable Funding รท Required Stable Funding ร 100%
Assumptions & Limitations
- Uses simplified Basel III weights for educational purposes
- Excludes off-balance-sheet exposures, derivatives, and encumbered assets
- Aggregate totals only โ per-category breakdowns available in the web calculator
- Actual regulatory calculations may vary by jurisdiction
