About This Template

Price European currency options instantly with this professional-grade Garman-Kohlhagen model Excel template. Whether you're hedging FX exposure, analyzing option strategies, or studying derivatives pricing, this spreadsheet calculates call and put premiums along with all essential Greeks โ€” no macros or programming required.

What You Can Calculate

Enter your currency pair parameters and get immediate results:

  • Call & Put Premiums โ€” Per-unit option prices using the industry-standard Garman-Kohlhagen formula
  • Total Premium โ€” Full contract cost based on your notional amount
  • Forward Exchange Rate โ€” Implied forward rate from interest rate parity
  • Option Greeks โ€” Delta, Gamma, Theta (daily), and Vega for risk analysis
  • Intermediate Values โ€” dโ‚, dโ‚‚, and cumulative normal probabilities for formula verification

Required Inputs

The template needs 8 parameters that you can find from market data providers or your broker:

  • Spot & Strike Rates โ€” Current exchange rate and your desired exercise rate
  • Interest Rates โ€” Domestic and foreign risk-free rates (annualized, continuously compounded)
  • Volatility โ€” Annualized FX volatility (often available from options markets)
  • Time to Expiration โ€” Option maturity in years (convert days or months as needed)
  • Notional Amount โ€” Foreign currency units covered by the option

Methodology

This template implements the Garman-Kohlhagen model (1983), which extends Black-Scholes to currency options by incorporating both domestic and foreign interest rates. The model treats holding foreign currency as equivalent to owning a dividend-paying asset, where the "dividend yield" equals the foreign risk-free rate. All formulas are visible and editable for educational analysis.

Assumptions & Limitations

  • European-style options (exercise at expiration only)
  • Constant interest rates and volatility over the option's life
  • No transaction costs or bid-ask spreads
  • Continuously compounded interest rates
