What You Can Calculate

Methodology

The template uses standard statistical formulas:

  • z-statistic: z = (xฬ„ - ฮผโ‚€) / (ฯƒ / โˆšn)
  • t-statistic: t = (xฬ„ - ฮผโ‚€) / (s / โˆšn) with df = n - 1
  • Proportion z: z = (pฬ‚ - pโ‚€) / โˆš(pโ‚€(1-pโ‚€)/n)

P-values are computed using the appropriate distribution (normal or t) based on test type and tail direction. Decision output automatically compares p-value to your chosen significance level.

Assumptions & Limitations

  • Simple random sampling with independent observations
  • z-test for mean requires known population ฯƒ and normal population (or n โ‰ฅ 30)
  • t-test for mean requires approximately normal population or large n
  • Proportion test requires nร—pโ‚€ โ‰ฅ 10 and nร—(1-pโ‚€) โ‰ฅ 10 for normal approximation
  • One-sample tests only โ€” two-sample and paired tests not included
