About This Template
Calculate iron condor profit potential, breakeven prices, and risk metrics with this professional-grade Excel template. Whether you're analyzing a new position or evaluating an existing trade, this template gives you instant answers to the key questions every options trader needs to know.
What You Can Calculate
This template computes the essential metrics for any iron condor position:
- Net Credit โ Total premium collected when opening the position (per share and total)
- Maximum Profit โ The most you can earn if the stock expires between your short strikes
- Maximum Loss โ Your worst-case outcome if the stock moves beyond either long strike
- Breakeven Prices โ Upper and lower stock prices where your P&L equals zero
- Risk/Reward Ratio โ Compares max loss to max profit for quick position assessment
Required Inputs
Enter just 9 values to get complete results:
- Four strike prices (K1 < K2 < K3 < K4)
- Four option premiums (per share, as quoted by your broker)
- Number of contracts
Built-In Validation
The template automatically validates your inputs and warns you about common issues:
- Strike order violations (K1 must be lowest, K4 must be highest)
- Net debit positions (unusual for iron condors โ may indicate mispriced options)
Methodology
All calculations use standard options math. Net credit equals short premiums minus long premiums. Max profit equals the net credit when the position is standard. Max loss is computed separately for the put side and call side, then the larger value is reported. Breakeven prices are the short strikes adjusted by the net credit received.
Frequently Asked Questions
Iron condors involve 4 option legs, each requiring complex Black-Scholes calculations. This template uses the simpler premium-input approach that matches how brokerages display options. Enter the quoted premiums from your broker for accurate results.
The template will display a warning. Iron condors require K1 < K2 < K3 < K4 (long put < short put < short call < long call). Correct the strike order for valid calculations.
The template instantly computes both breakeven prices, compares put-side vs call-side max loss (useful for asymmetric condors), and calculates the risk/reward ratio. It also validates strike order and warns if your position results in a net debit.
