About This Template
Instantly compute predicted probabilities from your logit or probit regression coefficients with this professional Excel template. Whether you are a student learning binary response models, a researcher analyzing discrete choice data, or an analyst working with credit risk models, this Logit and Probit Calculator Excel template gives you the power to explore your results offline.
What You Can Calculate
This template computes all the key outputs from binary response models:
- Predicted Probability P(y=1) - The probability of the outcome occurring at your specified evaluation point
- Linear Index (z) - The latent variable value before transformation
- Marginal Effects - How probability changes with a one-unit increase in each variable
- Odds Ratios - The multiplicative change in odds (Logit model only)
Required Inputs
Simply enter your regression coefficients from Stata, R, Python, or any statistical software:
- Model Type - Choose between Logit (logistic CDF) or Probit (normal CDF)
- Intercept (b0) - The constant term from your regression
- Coefficients (b1, b2) - Slope coefficients on your explanatory variables
- Evaluation Point (X1, X2) - Values at which to compute predictions
Methodology
The template implements the standard binary response model framework. For Logit: P(y=1) = 1/(1+exp(-z)) using a numerically stable two-branch formula. For Probit: P(y=1) = Phi(z) using the standard normal distribution function. Marginal effects are computed as the derivative of probability with respect to each variable, evaluated at your specified point.
Key Assumptions
- Binary dependent variable (y = 0 or 1)
- Coefficients are from a properly estimated model
- Marginal effects are derivative-based and vary by evaluation point
- Odds ratios apply only to the Logit model
Frequently Asked Questions
This template computes predicted probabilities and marginal effects for both Logit and Probit models, plus odds ratios for the Logit model. Enter your regression coefficients and evaluation point to instantly see results - all formulas are live and update automatically.
This template is ideal for quick what-if analysis, classroom demonstrations, or when you need to compute predictions from published coefficients without setting up full statistical software. It is portable, shareable, and requires only Excel.
Yes. Simply enter the intercept and slope coefficients from your regression output. The template works with coefficients from any statistical software - just make sure you are using the correct model type (Logit vs Probit).
