Spartan Stores, Inc. is a regional grocery distributor and grocery retailer, operating principally in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. The Company operates in two segments: Distribution and Retail. The Company offers a variety of grocery products, general merchandise and health and beauty care, pharmacy, fuel and other items and services. As of March 30, 2013, the Company marketed and distributed 4,100 private brand items, including its flagship Spartan brand, Spartan Fresh Selections, Top Care, a health and beauty care brand, Full Circle, a natural and organic brand, World Classics, Paws, a pet supplies brand, B-leve a bath and beauty brand, and Valu Time brand. The Company's Distribution segment consists primarily of its wholly owned subsidiary, Spartan Stores Distribution, LLC. The Company operates its Retail segment through its wholly owned subsidiary, Seaway Food Town, Inc. and its subsidiaries. In November 2013, Spartan Stores Inc acquired Nash Finch Co.
